Description

Overview

The Engineer II is to provide technical support and contribute technical expertise to the implementation of water and wastewater treatment projects. The primary duties of this position are to be very familiar with and understand the design documents, set up construction quality control and measurement benchmarks, and work with the construction inspector, contractor, and stakeholders to minimize the technical and financial risks associated with the treatment construction.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections and monitor work activities to ensure compliance with the design specifications and plans; evaluate proposed changes to the design plans and specifications

• Provides assistance to inspectors in the interpretation of plans and resolution of problems during construction

• Prepares a variety of reports and correspondence on project matters including Inspector's reports, monthly and final completion reports, contract modification negotiations, field and design engineering changes, and correspondence with the contractor on fulfillment of requirements

• Reviews construction plans to evaluate potential construction problems; monitors construction project expenditures; coordinates with contractors and treatment operational staff to prepare implementation plans and contingency plans to minimize the disturbance of construction to the treatment operations

• This position provides construction management and technical support for wastewater treatment construction projects with an annual construction value of approximately $20 million. The position will foresee the potential issues during the construction implementation and assist in problem solutions to prevent losses in construction costs and schedule

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

• Exempt - Full-Time

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)

• 2 (two) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

• EIT License

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
