Maintenance Supervisor
Primary Duties
Section Supervision: Coordinate and direct the daily work for workgroup operations, set priorities, and work time limits for employees. Establish work and safety rules for daily workgroup operations. Develop operation work schedules, approve or disapprove employee leave requests and payroll records; participate in the recruitment and hiring process for new employees; and coordinate and schedule orientation and training sessions. Facilitate training of employees on new and/or updated work methods and requirements. Regularly monitor and evaluate employee work progress; take appropriate steps to address and correct unsatisfactory job performance and/or behavior; make recommendations for disciplinary or termination actions, and complete necessary documentation related to the recommendation. Formally evaluate employee performance and make recommendations for salary adjustments and formal commendations. Investigate policies, procedures, and practices related to grievances of employees and resolve or respond accordingly. Personally perform the work of subordinates during short periods of staffing shortages or as needed to maintain workflow.
Work Scheduling and Quality Control: Establish and implement maintenance and repair schedules for preventive and corrective maintenance of water and wastewater system equipment, structures, machinery, and related buildings and grounds; heavy equipment and machinery; trucks and vehicles; and hand and power equipment and tools used in maintenance and repair activities. Review maintenance schedules and determine necessary adjustments; review the accuracy of equipment and facility records; and inspect equipment, facilities, and grounds. Prepare information and data for equipment purchases and maintenance projects involving the application of multiple technical, safety, or regulatory requirements. Direct and monitor the maintenance of warehoused inventories of warehoused parts, materials, and supplies.
Workgroup Operations: Develop and implement operating policies, procedures, schedules, forms, and controls for use in requesting maintenance and repair services for system, heavy equipment, tools, vehicles facilities, buildings and grounds; maintain work scheduling and work order production systems; maintain warehoused inventories of maintenance and repair parts, supplies, and materials; maintain equipment data, documents and records, and routine servicing of vehicles and equipment in conformance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and industry methods and control practices. Coordinate installation and monitor implementation of new or upgraded computerized operations and service systems. Prepare periodic and annual reports and ensure retention of appropriate records. Coordinate operations with other agencies.
Technical Support: Provide reports, information, and advice on statutory and regulatory requirements, technical standards, and probable operational impacts of proposed staffing, operational systems and equipment, or other policy changes relating to maintenance and repair programs. Provide technical information and advice to departments on water and wastewater service and operations subjects. Prepare time and cost estimates for budget preparation. Participate in multi-disciplinary team evaluations of plant process control and improvement needs. Oversee the Collection Systems workgroup. Coordinate the administration of the USA locator and CMMS systems.
Other Assigned Duties
General Operations: Participate in the general administrative operations of the department and the District. Assume responsibility for covering a part of the work assignments of other supervisors or managers during short absences.
Respond to inquiries and requests from the public, customers, and outside organizations. Participate in teams engaged with process and customer service improvements, cross-training, and team performance evaluations. Participate in District-related civic events and activities of community and technical organizations, and attend meetings and make presentations. Participate in District committees and staff functions. Perform other assigned work which is consistent with the responsibilities assigned to the classification and necessary to the operations of the department and the District.
