Vehicle Maintenance Technician I
Description
Overview
The primary function of this position is to diagnose and repair minor tire, mechanical, and electrical systems, on police equipment according to safety requirements, and to maintain CCPD units. The VMT I inspect all the vehicles brought into the vehicle pool to ensure they are safe, clean and operate properly. This position monitors and maintains the vehicle status board to update personnel on unit availability. Duties include mount, balance, change tires, and transports Police Department units from, and to, service area and stations. The VMT I may perform minor mechanical repairs as needed.
Responsibilities
• Inspect all vehicles to ensure they are safe, clean and operate properly
• Clean vehicle interiors by sweeping vacuuming and wiping down interior and windows
• Wash the vehicles' exterior with pressure washer or at the City's wash rack
• Inspect vehicles for body damage, correct fluid levels, and correct tire pressure
• Transport Police Department units from, and to, service area and stations
• Maintain daily and weekly trip tickets and process and posts trip tickets on the status board daily
• Perform minor mechanical repairs as needed
• Schedule preventive maintenance with Service Writer
• Process work orders for repairs and services and deliver the vehicle to the Service Center or outside vendors for repairs
• Dispatch equipment and vehicles to City employees
• Provide rental documents to City employees for use of motor pool rental fleet and check returned documents for clarity and completeness
• Inspect vehicles for damage and deliver return paperwork to Service Writer
• Clean and maintain motor pool area
• Sweep and mop shops, bays, and offices as required by supervisor
• Preform yard work, to include mow, trim, edge, and pick up trash as required
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time- Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hirin
• Must pass a Police background check at time of hire

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
