SUMMARY: Under general supervision, issues parts and supplies for the Island Transit Bus Shop.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Issues parts and supplies to mechanic staff for work orders.

• Processes invoices and work orders.

• Conducts inventories of parts, supplies, materials and equipment.

• Contacts vendors to order new items or place re-orders of items; discusses the availability of parts and supplies; prices items competitively to obtain the best price for items.

• Maintains various filing systems.

• May conduct auctions of retired City units and other items.

• Performs the pickup of parts and supplies from vendors.

• Delivers and retrieves City units from vendors sent for maintenance and repairs.

• May perform staff payroll processing.

• May perform building maintenance repairs as needed.

• May serve as a fill-in for Fleet Service Technician staff.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

• Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge:

• City policies and procedures.

• Principles and practices of inventory management and control.

• Principles and practices of inventory control

• Proper identification of parts and the meaning of manufacturer codes.

• Service order processing procedures.

• Record keeping and filing systems.

• Safety procedures and practices.

• Personal computer and various software applications.

Skill in:

• Handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.

• Researching parts and using manufacturer manuals.

• Providing efficient customer service.

• Understanding and applying City policies and procedures.

• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City.

• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent; AND three years of automotive parts processing and inventory control experience; ORan equivalent combination of education and experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

Preferred applicant will possess a valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Minimum requirement is that Applicant be required to possess a valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s Learners Permit with passenger endorsement within 90 days of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed both in an outdoor and indoor work environment. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals and extreme weather conditions. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. May be required to climb ladders.
