DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This individual will supervise the daily operational activities of a solid waste district, including the collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste/recyclables. Issue work assignments and schedules, and/or reassign personnel to meet workload demands. Train employees on operations techniques. Investigate and respond to incidents, public inquiries, and vehicle accidents; resolve problems. Compile and maintain a variety of district records on such items as vehicles, equipment, personnel and operations. Prepare and submit required management reports. Verify disciplinary actions, overtime reports and employee performance evaluation reports. Verify automated route container inventory. Supervise distribution of performance evaluation reports. Verify automated route container inventory. Supervise distribution of automated containers. Prepare maps for collections and automation. Review operational policies and procedures. Recommend changes. Assist in preparing budget and cost analysis. This position will travel throughout the City of Houston districts.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires lifting of heavy items of up to 60 pounds and/or walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or regular physical exertion such as climbing of ladders. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solution.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or GED certification.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Three (3) years of experience in solid waste operations or a closely related field are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2)
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants who have a valid Driver's License.
Experience in solid waste operations
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED Department may administer skills assessment test.
