Job SummaryThe purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of special events on behalf of the Recreation & Parks Department and the City of Greenville by assessing community needs, overseeing event details, establishing relationships with public and private partners, coordinating marketing efforts, and obtaining sponsorships. This position will support diverse special events at Wildwood Park and the City of Greenville, sponsorships obtained to plan and implement special events for the community, develop and maintain community support and participation from public, civic groups, and local businesses.
FLSA Status: Non-ExemptExamples of Duties- Plans, organizes, and promotes a year-round calendar of special events, festivals, concerts, holiday celebrations, and seasonal celebrations for various age groups to meet the needs of the community;
- Analyzes and assesses the needs of the community and response for special events;
- Performs personnel management duties including hiring, training, coaching, assigning work, and supervising full-time, part-time, seasonal staff, and volunteers;
- Coordinates schedules, locations, and personnel to staff events;
- Oversees venue operations and ensures venues are safe and properly maintained;
- Assists in the formulation and execution of special event rules and policies;
- Develops and maintains community support and participation from the general public, civic groups, and businesses by promoting department events through speaking engagements, correspondence, and media coverage;
- Assures safe operation of events and obtains proper permits, insurance, and maintains liability documentation and event records;
- Determines event equipment and supply needs;
- Prepares and administers the annual event budget, recommends fees and charges, oversees expenditures and revenues, maintains financial records;
- Promotes events, City liaison for media and public or private organizations, prepares press releases, flyers, and brochures for promotion;
- Coordinates and collaborates with various City departments related to the implementation of events as needed;
- Procures funding and in-kind donations for events;
- Conducts evaluations of all events; incorporates new trends and community needs into event planning; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: - Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Recreation, or related field; and
- Three to five years of experience in programs, events, facility management, and/or marketing.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: - event planning and the operation of facilities and event spaces.

Special Requirements- CPR/First Aid Instructor certification is required within 30 days of hire;
- Valid NC Driver's License and acceptable driving record;
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification preferred, or must obtain within 1 year of hire date.
