Position DescriptionThe City of Fresno is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Airports team as Airports Public Safety Agent I. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide directions and customer service to travelers.
• Monitor and enforce curbside and vehicle regulations.
• Direct traffic flow and escort pedestrians safely.
• Check badges, vehicle permits, and conduct inspections.
• Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and suspicious activity.
• Operate radios, phones, and communication equipment.
• Assist in coordinating emergency and non-emergency incidents.
• Prepare clear and accurate reports and records.
• Support dispatch and access control operations.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The current vacancies exist in the Airports Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.
The Requirements Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and does not assure a place on the eligibility list:
High School diploma or equivalent
AND
One (1) year of military experience or substantial amount of public contact experience.
Additional Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
Possession and continue maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License.
Depending on assignment, may require bilingual skills to meet departmental needs.
Possession of a valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate must be obtained within the probationary period. Failure to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR certificate and maintain throughout the term of employment in this class will be cause for termination.
Prior to appointment, positions in Airports require successful completion of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 10-year employment history verification, which includes a criminal history records check.
The selected eligible candidates for this position will be required to successfully pass a Department interview, an extensive background investigation, and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment with the department.
The Selection Process The examination process may consist of the following:
Written Examination: 100% - A job related written examination, which may be administered online, will be administered, and may test a candidate's ability to follow written instructions, customer service, driver safety, airport security and safety, basic first aid, two-way radio, grammar, reading comprehension and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
The written examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of August 17th, 2026.
Veteran’s Preference If an examination is conducted for a position within the classified service, qualified veterans who pass the examination will have five (5) points added to their final score. Candidates must submit a copy of their DD214 Member 4 form or electronic copy indicating honorable discharge with each application prior to the filing deadline.

VACATION LEAVE Accrue 8 - 14.66 hours per month based on years of service
SICK LEAVE 8 hours per month, available after 90 days.

HOLIDAYS Ten (10) City-observed annual holidays plus birthday and two (2) personal days.
SHORT TERM DISABILITY Provided through California SDI program
BILINGUAL PREMIUM PAY: $100 per month
HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT ARRANGEMENT (HRA) Eligible retirees can use the remaining Sick Leave balance, in excess of 240 hours, at 80% of hourly rate and other qualified leave balances, tax free, to reimburse health insurance premiums and other qualified medical expenses.
RETIREMENT - City of Fresno Retirement Systems, one of the best funded public systems in the state. Reciprocity with other public California systems. Vested in Retirement benefits after 5 years of service. City employees do not participate in Social Security.
DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Program): an optional, voluntary program that allows an employee to deposit retirement benefits in a special savings account within the Retirement System while continuing to work for the City of Fresno for up to 10 years. Participation minimum is age 50 and vested. Benefits include ownership of accumulated funds, compound interest earnings, and alternative distribution options.
