The Contra Costa Health Department currently has a great career opportunity to fill one (1) vacant Therapist Aide position. This position is located within the Detention Services in Martinez, CA.

Therapist Aides assist Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologist, in supporting patients with their physical, mental and cognitive health. Individual and group sessions focus on skills such as organization, self-awareness, social interaction, planning, and community under Therapist supervision. The Therapist Aide position also supports rehabilitation services by assisting therapists with treatment area preparation, patient support, equipment maintenance, and clerical duties to ensure efficient daily operations. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to patient recovery while working as part of a collaborative healthcare team.

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.

Experience: Six (6) months of full-time or its equivalent experience either: 1) Assisting physical or occupational therapists in carrying out assigned patient treatments; 2) Assisting in direct patient care for adults or children with disability in a hospital or clinic setting; or 3) as a special education classroom aide working with physically and/or mentally challenged children.

Certification: Must possess and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.

Substitution: Successful completion of 15 semester or 22½ quarter units from an accredited college or university including at least one (1) course in psychology or a physical or biological science may be substituted for the required experience.

Selection Process

Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.Remote Oral Interview: Candidates that clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a remote oral interview. The oral interview will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include, but are not limited to: Decision Making, Professional Integrity & Ethics, Oral Communication, Building & Maintaining Relationships and Teamwork . Candidates must achieve a passing score on each of the competencies to pass the overall assessment and be placed on the eligible list. (Weighted 100%)

The assessment may be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment.

Remote Exam/Evaluation: The Virtual Oral Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely) during the week of August 3, 2026.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
