The Colusa County Sheriff's Office is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Sheriff's Technician to join our team. In this essential role, you will provide administrative and technical support with primary responsibility for the management of property and evidence and the maintenance of coroner records. Your work will help ensure the integrity of critical evidence, maintain accurate records, support investigations, and uphold the Sheriff's Office's commitment to public safety, accountability, and professional service.

What's this Job All About?

As the Sheriff's Technician, you will play a vital behind-the-scenes role that directly supports criminal investigations, the Coroner's Office, and the overall operations of the Sheriff's Office. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain accurate records while handling sensitive and confidential information.

Property & Evidence

You will be responsible for receiving, documenting, storing, tracking, and releasing property and evidence while maintaining accurate records and preserving the chain of custody. Your work helps ensure evidence is managed in accordance with departmental policies and applicable laws, supporting the integrity of criminal investigations and the justice process.

Coroner Records

You will manage and maintain coroner records, ensuring documentation is accurate, organized, complete, and maintained in compliance with legal requirements and departmental procedures. Your attention to detail will help preserve the integrity of these important records while supporting the administrative functions of the Coroner's Office.

Receives general supervision from management or supervisory staff.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required Knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience
Some experience in law enforcement or as a public safety dispatcher is desirable.

Training
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Supplemental training in Sheriff’s Department operations or a related field is preferred.

License or Certificate

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

Supplemental Information

The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
