Description
Department: Parks Maintenance / Parks and Recreation Schedule: Flexible scheduling based on department need. *Hours may vary in summer months. *Position is subject to after-hour/emergency calls. Reports To: Park Maintenance Supervisor Positions Supervised: None
Job Summary
Under direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for day-to-day maintenance and landscaping of City of Weatherford parks and property, as well as setting up and working special events and ballfield maintenance.
Roles & Responsibilities
Routinely operates various hand tools and powered equipment such as clippers, shovels, rakes, picks, chain saws, riding and push lawnmowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, etc. in the repair and maintenance of City property.
Assists the team with setup and tear down of special events.
Assists with daily landscape maintenance and repairs in city parks.
Performs minor maintenance duties of equipment such as changing oil.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Some knowledge of building maintenance such as painting and minor plumbing and repair work.
Ability to operate light equipment, hand tools, and power tools such as lawnmower, weed eater, tractor, saws, wrenches, shovels, post hole digger, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and coworkers via telephone and face-to-face interactions.
Regular, reliable, and punctual levels of attendance are essential job functions and expectations of this position.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time to perform planting and maintenance duties.
Ability to climb heights up to 30 feet on ladders, stairs, and in trees.
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, and twist while performing maintenance duties.
Ability to operate small equipment such as mowers, weedeaters, edgers, blowers, and chainsaws.
Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment or materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed outdoors and is subject to mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards and bodily injury.
Work may be subject to dirt, dust, adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, wetness, and humidity; heights; fumes; odors; vibration; loud noise; and constant noise.
Work may be subject to time pressures, emergency situations, noisy or distracting environments, working closely with others as part of a team, working alone 50% or more of the time, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, frequent changes to tasks, and dealing with irate people.
Minimum Qualifications
Above knowledge and skill may be gained by two years of responsible experience performing grounds maintenance duties OR by any combination of training and experience leading to the described level of knowledge and skill.
Must have valid Texas Driver’s License and driving record must meet or surpass guidelines as set forth by the City.
