Network Administrator
Description
Position: Network Administrator FLSA: Exempt Department: Information Technology Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday; position is subject to after hours and emergency call in. Reports To: IT Director Positions Supervised: None
Job Summary
Under the direction of the IT Director, the Network Administrator designs, implements, and maintains enterprise and operational technology (OT) network infrastructure. This role supports secure, highly available environments across on-premises systems, virtualization platforms, and industrial control networks. The position emphasizes cybersecurity, monitoring/observability, and modern network architecture using industry best practices rather than vendor-specific implementations.
Roles & Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure
Design and maintain LAN/WAN environments, including VLANs, routing, and segmentation.
Configure and support VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN, secure remote access).
Implement high availability and redundancy strategies.
Systems & Virtualization
Support enterprise virtualization platforms and server infrastructure.
Maintain Linux and Windows Server systems.
Support containerized services and modern application hosting models.
Monitoring & Observability
Implement and maintain infrastructure monitoring and alerting systems.
Develop dashboards and performance metrics for network and system health.
Troubleshoot issues using logs, metrics, and packet analysis.
Cybersecurity
Configure and maintain network security controls (firewalls, IDS/IPS, segmentation).
Support identity, access control, and certificate services.
Assist with compliance requirements (CJIS, NIST, or similar frameworks).
Operational Technology (OT) / SCADA
Support industrial networks and SCADA environments.
Maintain secure separation between IT and OT networks.
Monitor and support critical infrastructure systems.
Backup & Recovery
Administer backup and recovery solutions.
Perform periodic recovery testing and validation.
Automation & Scripting
Develop scripts to automate operational tasks and monitoring.
Improve efficiency through automation and integration.
Support & Collaboration
Act as Tier 2/3 escalation for network-related issues.
Collaborate with Service Desk and other IT staff.
Work with vendors and service providers as needed.
Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing.
Experience with network security principles and segmentation.
Familiarity with virtualization platforms, monitoring and alerting systems, and Linux and Windows Server environments.
Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash, or Python preferred).
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Regular, reliable, and punctual levels of attendance are essential job functions and expectations of this position.
Preferred Experience
Experience in public sector or critical infrastructure environments.
Exposure to industrial protocols (e.g., Modbus, SNMP).
Familiarity with compliance frameworks (CJIS, NIST).
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related field.
Certifications: A+, Network+, Security+, or similar required.
Minimum 3 years of network/system administration experience.
Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
