Animal Care Services Supervisor
Description
Overview The Animal Care Services Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing and enhancing all animal field service operations conducted by the animal control team. This position is responsible for managing investigations related to animal bites and cruelty, coordinating animal impoundments, and engaging in various fieldwork activities. Additionally, the supervisor provides training and support for staff members, ensuring that the team operates efficiently and effectively. The primary objective of this role is to guarantee the safe and responsible management of animal services, ultimately promoting the well-being of animals and the community.
Responsibilities • Supervise Animal Care Officers, Investigators, and Dispatchers, providing coaching, performance evaluations, and ongoing staff development
• Support investigators through the full investigation and prosecution process, ensuring proper case management and adherence to state laws and protocols
• Partner with the Assistant Director and Human Resources on staff performance issues, corrective actions, and disciplinary processes
• Approve staff leave requests and ensure accurate submission of payroll documentation
• Monitor field staff performance, workload distribution, and operational processes to identify inefficiencies and drive improvements
• Ensure compliance with state laws, department protocols, and standard operating procedures
• Oversee completion of daily activities and response to resident complaints regarding animal care and control
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding laws, policies, and procedures
• Oversee dispatch functions to ensure accurate routing, prioritization, and documentation of all field activities
• Ensure triage and prioritization processes meet established response standards
• Monitor dispatch workflows to support timely and efficient deployment of Animal Care Officers
• Maintain strong working knowledge of laws related to animal protection, humane treatment, and rabies enforcement
• Provide guidance to staff on proper documentation, reporting, and procedures needed for enforcement and prosecution
• Address complaints and resolve field issues safely, professionally, and in compliance with legal and departmental standards
• Develop and deliver training programs, materials, and resources for new and current field staff
• Communicate updates to procedures and ensure policies are reinforced with written documentation
• Recommend training needs and improvements to the Assistant Director
• Maintain required personal certifications and licenses, including Euthanasia and Animal Control Officer Basic certifications
• Ensure all field staff maintain Fear Free certifications and support them in obtaining relevant additional certifications
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications • Associate's degree (AA /AS)
• Three (3) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within six (6) months of hire • LRCA certification
• Euthanasia certification
Required within eighteen (18) months of hire • FEMA 700 & 800 certification
• Animal Care Officer Basic certification

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
