Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

• Perform basic welding tasks to fabricate, repair, and maintain equipment, structures, and facility components.
• Complete basic carpentry projects, including constructing, repairing, and modifying wood structures and fixtures.
• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain basic electrical wiring and electrical components.
• Work independently to diagnose issues, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
• Respond to emergency snow removal operations, including operating equipment and clearing streets, sidewalks, and facilities.
• Identify maintenance issues and implement practical solutions using strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Operate plasma cutting equipment and oxygen-acetylene torches to cut, repair, and fabricate metal components.
• Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by effectively navigating a shop setting and utilizing hand and power tools.
• Perform basic concrete work, including flatwork installation, construction of freestanding wall forms, placement of reinforcement materials, and rebar tying.
• Calculate material quantities and order concrete, reinforcement products, and related construction materials for maintenance and construction projects.
• Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with safety standards, specifications, and quality expectations.
• Assist with facility maintenance, repair, and improvement projects to support departmental operations and infrastructure needs.

Qualifications

REQUIRES

• Two (2) years of experience as a skilled worker in building and mechanical repair work in a relevant trade (HVAC, boilers, hydraulics, pumps and motors etc.).
• An additional related technical education certificate or diploma may be substituted for one year experience.
• Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
• May be required to obtain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A, B, or C issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period. (Appropriate CDL will be determined by the department).
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.
