The Coordinator, Civil Service supports both Municipal and Public Safety Civil Service operations by coordinating Commission meetings and disciplinary hearings, interpreting civil service statutes and rules, managing promotional processes, maintaining records and data systems, and responding to open records requests. This role ensures compliance with applicable civil service requirements and provides clear, accurate information to employees, departments, and stakeholders.

Job Description:

Coordinator, Civil Service

Purpose:

Coordinates Civil Service activities on behalf of City Management and the Civil Service Commission so they can comply with applicable civil service statutory requirements.

Notes to Candidate:

The Municipal Civil Service Coordinator provides citywide support for MCS Rules, coordinates logistics for Commission meetings, serves as the liaison between the MCS Commission and the City, and guides employees through the MCS appeal process, including timelines and required deliverables. The role also includes delivering training to City employees.

Salary Range: $28.76 - $35.39 hourly

Days and Hours:

Monday - Friday.
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Hours may vary due to operational needs. An alternative schedule and remote work/teleworking options are available, but the position requires a minimum of 40% of the week in the office.

Travel:

If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
