Municipal Court Security OfficerThe City of Everett is accepting applications on an appointive basis for the position of Municipal Court Security Officer with our Municipal Court. Employees will also accrue vacation, sick, and holidays throughout the calendar year.About the Department:Working in the Judicial Branch of Government gives the Everett Municipal Court Team the opportunity to serve a diverse community and provide them with access to justice. As a court of Limited Jurisdiction, Everett Municipal Court processes criminal and civil cases and offers pre-trial diversion and therapeutic alternatives.About the Job :Under the direction of the Municipal Court Administrator or their designee, maintain order and security in the Municipal Court facility. Responsibilities include performing a variety of courtroom duties to ensure the safe, productive, and efficient operations of the Municipal Court. The work involves screening all individuals entering the Municipal Court through the courthouse entrance, monitoring security scanner and weapons detectors, security cameras, preparation of courtroom facilities as well as assisting defendants and jurors. The work is reviewed for adherence to established policies and procedures.Illustrative Examples of Work:Maintain order and security in the Municipal Court; monitor security scanner and weapons detector at courtroom entrance; search belongings of people entering the court building; pat down search of person if needed.Operate security cameras, retrieve data and video content for viewing and recording.Respond appropriately to unruly and/or deescalate individuals in the court facility.Inspect the Municipal Court facility, equipment, and grounds to identify safety hazards, maintenance problems and unsafe working conditions; correct and/or report maintenance deficiencies and safety hazards as appropriate.Communicate with outside entities about shared security threats.Prepare courtroom and facilities for operation, including opening and closing court; posting court calendars and providing courtrooms with supplies as needed.Supervise custody of in-court commitments; supervise the transfer and custody of prisoners within the Municipal Court; maintain security lockers available to the public.Direct jurors to appropriate courtroom and jury room.Assist and direct visitors to courtrooms, front counter, and restrooms; assist the public in emergency situations.Maintain reference and research materials; and maintain and update legal publications as necessary.Assist in administrative duties such as stuffing envelopes and delivering mail.Carry a city issued firearm and qualify under the guidance of the Everett Police Department Rangemaster.Carry city issued OC spray following the guidance of the Everett Police Department.Perform related work and special projects as assigned.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience as a law enforcement officer, reserve law enforcement officer, park ranger, corrections officer, military police officer, or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
