Summary
Zoning Enforcement Assistant
Under general supervision, provides assistance to the Zoning Administrator in enforcing the zoning ordinance of the City of North Myrtle Beach. Duties will include all enforcement activities, responding to complaints, data input, and property inspection for compliance.
Minimum Training and Experience
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: One (1) year of experience in Municipal or County Planning, Zoning Administration, Law Enforcement, or related field
Certifications: Valid driver's license

Note: The City retains the right to determine equivalencies. Any certifications not possessed at hire, must be obtained before the employee is removed from probation in order to continue employment with the City.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate an automobile and a variety of automated office machines, which includes a computer, copier, etc. Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Essential Job Functions
Provides assistance to the Zoning Administrator in enforcing the zoning ordinance of the City of North Myrtle Beach.
Provides assistance to the public regarding zoning requirements.
Performs research of tax records to gather pertinent information regarding ownership to be used when enforcing the ordinance.
Performs data input for creating property files using the existing software of the department.
Performs proactive enforcement through general patrol in field for sign and banner violations, tree cutting violations, and any other illegal zoning related activity.
Maintains records of enforcement including picture and video recordings; issues citations and takes cases to court when necessary.
Performs final inspections for zoning compliance prior to the building inspectors certificate of occupancy or the certificate of completion inspection.
Performs property inspection to close files on small projects.
Responds to complaints from the general public; keeps complaint records and follow-up as well as dispensation.
Assists the Code Enforcement Officer when necessary in the enforcement of codes not located within the Zoning Ordinance.
Assists the Building Division when necessary; issues stop work orders for illegal construction and other violations pertaining to zoning matters.
Operates a variety of equipment such as an automobile, microfiche reader/printer, copier, cameras, postage machine, cell phone, fax machine, etc.
Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks.
Interacts and communicates with departmental supervisors and employees, department heads and employees, City Manager, Planning Commission, Director of Planning and Development, Board of Zoning Appeals, Mayor, City Council, City Engineer, City Attorney, and other City Department heads and employees.
Punctual, regular, and reliable attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at the City of North Myrtle Beach.
Performs other duties as required.
All employees of the municipality shall learn the emergency operations procedures for their respective department and position and execute these duties fully during times of emergency. This may or may not include assignment to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
