This position is located in Custer, SD. Relocation or commute required.Custer County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for full-time Certified Deputy Sheriffs. This is an excellent opportunity for dedicated law enforcement professionals who value community service, teamwork, and proactive policing while serving one of the most scenic areas of South Dakota.The starting wage is $27.59 per hour for current South Dakota certified officers, plus a $1.00 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.Custer County offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid holidays, vacation earned at 10 hours per month, sick leave earned at 8 hours per month, employee health insurance with a Health Savings Account option, SDRS retirement, dental and vision coverage, and additional life insurance options. Deputies are assigned individual patrol vehicles, and the department provides duty gear and uniforms.Deputies are responsible for enforcing local and state laws, preventing and suppressing crime and accidents, serving legal processes, promoting public safety through community policing, and performing other duties as assigned. The Custer County Sheriff's Office also provides contract patrol services for the United States Forest Service and the City of Custer.Custer County encompasses more than 1,500 square miles and is home to the Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Black Hills National Forest, and Buffalo Gap National Grassland.RequirementsCurrent South Dakota Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission CertificationAt least 21 years of ageHigh school diploma or GEDValid driver's license with an insurable driving historySuccessful completion of a comprehensive background investigationNo prior felony or simple assault, domestic violence convictionsAvailability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidaysFor More InformationSgt.
