Summary

PositionSheriff's Community Services Officer I, under supervision, performs non-hazardous vehicle code and parking regulation enforcement, special events or emergency traffic control, and general traffic and parking control throughout the general unincorporated area of Sacramento County. Some positions may be assigned to a city to which law enforcement services are provided by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.ResponsibilitiesEnforce vehicle code and parking regulations.Provide traffic control during special events and emergency situations.Maintain general traffic and parking control in the unincorporated area.Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge ofMajor streets, highways, districts and points of interest in Sacramento CountyBasic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, ratios, and fractions)English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuationAbility toCommunicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writingInterpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulationsRead and use mapsFollow oral and written procedures and directionsMaintain courteous and cooperative behavior in adverse situationsLearn to operate computers and various law enforcement software programs related to the area of assignmentLearn to safely operate and maintain equipment used in the performance of dutiesApply customer service techniques for dealing with people, often in difficult or confrontational situationsEmployment QualificationsMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or acceptable GED certificationValid California driver license, Class C or higherMinimum age 18 years at time of appointmentGeneral QualificationsCompleted criminal history and background checks; no disqualifying felony or misdemeanor convictions related to job duties unless mitigating circumstances existSubmitted fingerprints and potential arrest notification for background reviewUndergo background checks including reference checks, credit history, Social Security verification, professional license verification, military service information, and driving history, in compliance with applicable laws and regulationsPhysical and Working ConditionsStand, walk, and/or sit for long periods of timeMove with sufficient agility in and out of vehicles and around high traffic work areasVisually distinguish colors and picture resolution qualityWork various locations and shifts to provide 24‑7 coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidaysWork in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of timeWear and maintain a designated Sheriff's Department uniformProbationary PeriodSix (6) months.Equal Opportunity Employer StatementWe are a proud equal opportunity employer.
