**R eferring employee shall receive a bonus of $250.00 for referred candidate hired into an eligible regular position and $500.00 upon that new employee’s completion of 2,080 service hours. Refer to the MOU for details. Referral Bonus amount and terms are dependent on applicable MOU.
The Probation Department is recruiting for Probation Cook I positions. Incumbents participate in and oversee meal preparation at a Probation Department institutional facility. Responsibilities include determining the quantities of food to prepare; preparing, cooking, and seasoning food; serving and supervising food service; and maintaining security through constant control of kitchen tools and equipment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Work Shift: Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime.
Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass a background investigation. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Applicants also must not currently be on court-ordered probation or have been on court-ordered probation within the last year.
Body Art Policy: While on duty, employees shall not have visible body modifications or body art, including but not limited to tattoos, piercings, stretching, branding, beading or implantation, and scarification. All body art must be completely covered while on duty by clothing, a skin-colored patch no larger than three (3) inches by three (3) inches, or skin-colored cosmetic makeup.
Location: These positions are located in Apple Valley and San Bernardino.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Physical: These positions require lifting up to fifty (50) pounds, standing, squatting, and reaching.
Certificate: Incumbents must obtain a San Bernardino County Food Handlers Certificate within two (2) weeks of appointment.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the options listed below:
Option 1: Paid cook or food service experience.
Option 2: Paid experience cooking food for a large number of persons in batches (e.g. hospital, school, jail, military, banquet, etc.)
Option 3: A community college Certificate in Culinary Arts.

The ideal candidate is an innovative and motivated food industry professional who takes initiative, can adapt and develop new recipes, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team or in a lead role.
