for the position of:
Field Ambassador Beaches, Parks & Recreation
DEFINITION Under general supervision, monitors and supports the safe and appropriate use of City athletic facilities, parks, and related recreation amenities; assists permitted user groups and facility users; verifies field reservations and facility use compliance; opens and closes facilities; responds to routine questions and concerns; assists with special events; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a part-time classification responsible for providing field and facility oversight, customer service, operational support, and community engagement at City athletic facilities and recreation sites.
Incumbents serve as visible representatives of the City and act as a liaison between facility users, athletic organizations, contractors, City staff, and the public. Employees monitor facility use, assist in resolving routine conflicts, communicate facility conditions, and support recreation operations and special events.
Essential FunctionsTypical Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of :- Principles of effective customer service and public interaction
- Basic recreational facility operations and athletic field use practices
- Applicable facility rules, policies, procedures, and safety practices
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques
- Basic recordkeeping and report preparation methods
- Standard office software and mobile communication devices
Ability to: - Monitor athletic facilities and identify operational, maintenance, or safety concerns
- Communicate effectively with user groups, staff, volunteers, and the public
- Exercise sound judgment when responding to facility issues and public concerns
- Resolve routine conflicts in a professional and diplomatic manner
- Prepare accurate logs, reports, and documentation
- Work independently while carrying out assigned responsibilities
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Experience and Education Requirements Experience One (1) year of experience in recreation, parks, facility operations, customer service, athletics, event support, public contact work, or a related field is desirable
Education / Training High School Diploma (or equivalent).
Licenses or Certifications - Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license
- CPR/First Aid certification is highly desirable
Each part-time employee will be enrolled in a 457 PTS Deferred Compensation plan based upon 7.5% of gross pay with costs being shared equally by the employee and the City.
Beginning January 1, 2024, part-time employees will be provided 40 hours of paid sick leave each year.
Hourly part-time employees are limited to working no more than 960 hours per fiscal year, and are provided hours as-needed by the Department.

$18.79 - $22.84 Hourly
