As a Records Technician I in the Health Information Management Department, you will play an important role in supporting patient care by ensuring hospital and patient related documentation is properly maintained and available in the medical record for health care providers and other authorized users. Under immediate supervision, the Records Technician I performs entry level, routine records management and clerical duties, following established procedures, and develop knowledge of specialized codes, statutes, and procedures. Documents examined are generally similar in format, require similar explanations, and involve the same types of supporting documentation. This is an excellent opportunity to build valuable experience in a healthcare environment while contributing to the accurate and timely management of information that supports medical decision-making and patient care.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Persons in this series differ from others in the office assistant series in that the former focuses on the examination and indexing of legal or medical documents to determine acceptability for public recordation and proper classification assignment in accordance with uniform standards. The documents recorded and indexed are recognized and transferable intrastate and/or interstate.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency - Administration

Records Technician I is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

NOTE: This classification is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an agency shop arrangement which mandates a Regular employee to either join Local 721 of SEIU and pay dues as a member OR either pay a service fee to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the service fee be distributed to a qualified charitable organization.

VETERAN’S POINTS: This is a trainee/entry level classification, and Veteran’s Points may apply to eligible applicants.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-Term), Per Diem Pool, Intermittent, and Extra-Help vacancies. There is currently one (1) Regular, Full-Time vacancy.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE - qualifying: All applicants are required to complete and submit the questionnaire for this examination at the time filing. The supplemental questionnaire may be used throughout the examination process to assist in determining each applicant's qualifications and acceptability for the position. Failure to complete and submit the questionnaire will result in the application being removed from consideration.

APPLICATION EVALUATION - qualifying: All applications will be reviewed to determine whether the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to continue to the next step in the screening and selection process.

WRITTEN EXAM - 100%: A job-related written examination will be administrated to test applicants’ knowledge of office practices, reading comprehension, forms completion/checking, comparison, vocabulary, spelling, math, and filing . Applicants must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list. Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
