General Statement of Duties
Under general supervision, operates a large, motorized street sweeper to ensure the cleanliness and safety of public roadways, curbs, and parking areas.

Please note : This posting is available for all interested applicants. This posting will only be used if the City of Des Moines first determines there are not sufficient qualified permanent Civil Service employees who apply to fill the current vacancies.
Below are the current scheduled shift times: Night shift hours: 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. Day shift hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. *Shift times are subject to change.
Performance Examination The Performance Exam for this position will be scheduled at a later date (specific times will be scheduled and notices sent via your preferred communication method). All candidates who are selected must participate in the performance examination.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
One (1) year of experience in the operation of motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
Required Special Qualifications
Possession of a valid Iowa Class B CDL with tank endorsement and allowing the operation of vehicles with airbrakes.
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer background check, physical examination, and drug screen.

Operates a large, motorized street sweeper to clean streets within an assigned district.
Installs, adjusts, and replaces brooms.
Performs minor servicing and maintenance repairs on assigned equipment.
Inspects equipment before use to ensure safe and proper operation.
Assists in varied street cleaning and motorized equipment operations.
Communicates with team members and supervisors regarding work progress or issues.
Follows established routes and schedules, adjusting as necessary due to road conditions, obstructions, or special assignments.
Maintains accurate records of mileage, service, and maintenance activities.
Responds to emergency clean-up situations, such as spills or post-storm debris, as directed.
