The Position The Board of Supervisors have authorized the following future salary increases:
5% on July 1, 2024
5% on July 1, 2025 Bargaining Unit: Local 856 - Health Services Unit The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is accepting applications on an ongoing basis to fill entry level Clinical Laboratory Scientist positions which may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez or health centers located in Richmond or Pittsburg.
Clinical Laboratory Scientist I is an entry-level classification. Employees in this class perform bacteriological, hematological, biochemical, serological, coagulation and transfusion tests. They also perform blood counts and prepare stains, reagents, and stock solutions.
Typical Tasks- Performs clinical laboratory procedures in clinical chemistry, micro-biology, hematology, immunohematology, urinalysis and phlebotomy
- Operates and maintains manual equipment and automated, computer controlled equipment
- Maintains quality control statistical data
- Draws blood for laboratory testing and processes specimens
- Performs laboratory tests in each area of the laboratory on a rotation basis
- Reports patients test results verbally and in writing to members of the medical and nursing staffs
- Stains and interprets blood smears of other biological specimens
- Types and cross matches blood for transfusion
- Prepares laboratory reagents
- Monitors supply inventories
- Maintains laboratory logs and records
Minimum QualificationsLicense Required: Possession of a valid license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist issued by the California State Department of Health . (

Experience: None required.
Other Requirements: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
CONVICTION HISTORYAfter you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERAll Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
