Currently, the City of Newport Beach is seeking two part time Park Patrol Officers to join our Recreation and Senior Services Department. This position will patrol and monitor active parks, beaches, fields and recreation facilities to enforce City rules, regulations, codes and ordinances; and resolves disputes or conflicts among park patrons.

Selection Components:
1. Application Evaluation: This position will remain open on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on July 10, 2024 OR until 150 applications are received, whichever occurs first. Qualified applicants will be invited to an online exam.

2. Online Exam: Tentatively scheduled for the week of July 22, 2024 . Top scoring applicants will be invited to a virtual interview.

3. Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for the week of August 5, 2024 . Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future part-time vacancies as they occur.

Schedule:
This position may work up to 19 hours per week including weekends.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of related work experience involving heavy public contact. Experience in enforcement, compliance, conflict management or security highly desirable.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Coursework in criminal justice, park management or security procedures desirable.

License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

A standard first aid certificate, CPR certificate, and PC 832 training (56 hours) must be completed within six months of employment.

Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach Employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.

Benefits

This position is Part-time/Seasonal and is provided the following minimum benefits:

Part-time employees are enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS) beginning on their first day of employment. The total defined contribution to the plan is 7.5% of your compensation of which the City pays 3.75%. The City does not participate in the federal Social Security program. Your benefits may be reduced if you work for an employer who does not withhold Social Security taxes from your salary.

Medicare: Federal mandate requires all employees hired or rehired by any government agency on or after April 1, 1986 to participate in Medicare. The City matches the employee's Medicare contribution, which is 1.45% of salary. Enrollment and deduction amounts are subject to change based on negotiated terms and additional laws.
