The NEIGHBORHOOD TRANSPORTATION PLANNER (PLANNER III) position will assist in the facilitation of neighborhood multimodal transportation projects in alignment with the City’s transportation goals. These goals focus on creating safe and complete streets as well as overall improvements of the transportation system for all users. The position works closely with residents to identify transportation challenges and possible solutions, assists in the development of project concepts, small and large; and assists with partner agency project review and grant development. The position will directly support the Transportation Planning Program Manager and oversee the Planner II positions.
Assists in transportation planning efforts developing planning studies and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs and regulations.

This job classification is in Management Category III for benefits purposes, which includes Six (6) additional Management Vacation days per calendar year and a monthly vehicle allowance of $250.00.

This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Federation of Public Employees and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Federation of Public Employees.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Bachelor's Degree in urban and regional planning, geography, public policy, architecture, or other field closely related to urban planning. Three (3) or more years of professional experience in transportation planning work or an area which includes a broad range of planning, program planning and policy development. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.This position requires a flexible schedule including attendance at various public meetings which commonly occur during the evening hours.

PREFERENCES:
A Master's Degree in urban and regional planning, geography, architecture, public or business administration or a closely related field American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification Previous experience working for or with government agenciesPrior lead work and/or supervisory experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine who will be required to work.

Proof of eligibility and the City's J204 form must be submitted with application.
