Description

Under supervision, administers and maintains a large and/or complex, multi-user departmental computer system by monitoring system operation, maintenance, support and enhancement.

Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To



Minimum Qualifications

Two years of progressively responsible experience administering large and/or complex, multi-user computer systems including responsibility for system configuration, trouble-shooting, maintenance and support, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below. Education equivalent to two years of college including or supplemented by successfully completed course work in electronic data processing may be used in combination with experience to meet the minimum qualifications.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of: system design and maintenance, and problem-solving methods involving large and/or complex systems, personal computers and mobile devices; network interface and communications; systems analysis; software operation including testing and debugging; principles and practices of database configuration and management; and principles and methods of records management, including writing complex SQL queries; general knowledge of and ability to write program code.

Skill in: using various types of computer hardware and software.

Ability to: analyze, document and solve data management problems in a systematic and logical manner; install software and hardware; implement, maintain and support third-party software such as records management and CAD applications; conduct training and provide guidance for system users; execute emergency data and system recovery procedures; design and implement new computer systems and applications; clearly document procedures, programs and processes; import/export data including parsing strings and transforming data; design output reports using tools such as Crystal Reports and/or SQL Server Reporting Services; communicate clearly both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with system users, vendors, programmers and other city employees.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Willingness and ability to quickly report to work on weekends, holidays or evenings in response to emergency calls regarding system failure or complications as needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

Those candidates who possess the most pertinent education, training, experience, and qualifications, will be invited to participate in the selection process, which will include:

Oral Interview Examination: (Weight 100%) will evaluate experience, training, and personal qualifications for the position. Candidates need a score of 70% or higher to pass this examination.

Note: Prior to selection, a thorough police background investigation will be conducted for outside candidates and non-Police Department City of Santa Ana employees. Contents of the background file and results of the background investigation may also be reviewed by the Police Chief prior to appointment. An updated background investigation may be required for current Police Department employees. Non-City of Santa Ana candidates selected for employment must also successfully complete a medical examination. Candidates may be subject to a police polygraph examination.
