Description
RoleCriminal, and/or Juvenile Delinquency, Juvenile Dependency experience preferred. The Yavapai County Public Defender's Office has openings for motivated Public Defenders with varied levels of experience, from entry to Capital Qualified. We are a paperless office where all employees work remotely and in the office in a hybrid environment. We are a passionate and collaborative team. Salary range is $113,680 to $144,942 (depending on experience. If first chair qualified there is a 10% special assessment added to your salary). Benefits are competitive. Major Duties, ResponsibilitiesMajor Duties:- Reviews relevant facts and creates a defense strategy.
- Confers with relevant county departments and outside agencies.
- Confers with and advises clients.
- Appears at court hearings.
- Represents clients at trial.
Expectations: - To possess a working knowledge of the principles of criminal law, rules of evidence, motion practice and rules of court.
- To apply legal principles to determinations on individual cases and problems.
- If applicable to the assigned caseload, to have a basic understanding of child development, substance abuse, and the service available to clients.
- To produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts.
- To perform self-directed research and analysis as required for effective defense.
- To possess the ability to handle a large volume of work.
- To develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, the courts, employees of other departments, and the public.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the State Bar of Arizona.
Other SkillsAbility to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to analyze and organize factual information; ability to make persuasive legal arguments; ability to work in a team environment.
