The Position

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time vacancy and six (6) extra help vacancies, which may be filled at the Juvenile Hall Counselor I or Juvenile Hall Counselor II level, depending on qualifications, for the Juvenile Hall at Napa County's Probation Department. The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year. Under California Code of Regulations Title 15, gender is a bona fide occupational qualification for the position of Juvenile Hall Counselors.

Extra Help positions are temporary assignments that are non-benefited and are scheduled up to 29 hours per week (up to 1 , 000 hours per fiscal year.) Extra Help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities that are open to regular part-time and full-time employees.

About the Position & Department:
A Juvenile Hall Counselor is responsible for the supervision, care and custody of youth detained in Juvenile Hall. The Probation Department operates adult and juvenile court-related services in the areas of investigation and supervision with the mission to enforce court orders to inspire positive change, transform the live of offenders, victims, and families, and promote community safety. The Department is also responsible for the overall operation of the County’s Juvenile Hall, which provides custody, counseling, medical care and guidance of delinquent and custodial children in a variety of short- and medium-term programs. Position Requirements for Juvenile Hall Counselor I/II
To qualify for the Juvenile Hall Counselor I classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:To qualify for the Juvenile Hall Counselor II classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

The Recruitment Process:

Mandatory Information Session (Candidates must appear in person) Only those who pass the minimum qualification screening will be invited to the Mandatory Information Session, tentatively scheduled the week of October 7, 2024. BSCC Written Examination (Proctored in person. Napa County does not accept T-Scores from outside agencies)

Only those who pass the Information Session will be invited to take the BSCC Written Exam tentatively scheduled the week of October 23, 2024.

Napa County doesn’t accept agility scores from outside agencies) Only those who pass the BSCC Written Examination will be invited to the Physical Agility Test (PAT) tentatively scheduled in November 2024. Oral Exam (Panel Interview) Only those who pass the PAT will be invited to the Oral Exam (Panel Interview) tentatively scheduled in December 2024.

Disaster Service Workers:
Napa County employees automatically become Disaster Service Workers. SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.

SELECTION PROCESS -

FOR POSITIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT - The selection process will include an oral board interview, psychological assessment, background investigation, and a pre-employment physical exam.
