Description

The Emergency Management Senior Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of various emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation plans and activities for the Denton County Emergency Management Program.

Examples of Duties

Prepares emergency preparedness drills, exercises, and trainings.

Prepares Emergency Management plans and documents.

Assists in maintenance of the radio tower, mobile command unit technology, and radio cache.

Develops and maintains a state of readiness for the warehouse, vehicle fleet, and to include inventory management.

Writes grants and manages grants throughout the grant life cycle.

Assists with developing emergency contracts, writing a statement of work, and scoring.

Assists in planning and coordinating disaster response operations required for damage assessments, sheltering, volunteer and donations management, evacuation, or other emergency related activities.

Assists in planning and execution of disaster recovery efforts.

Assists the volunteer coordinators to include: Rehab Team, Long-Term Recovery Committee, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), Denton County Amateur Radio Club (DCARA), and other volunteer organizations.

Attends seminars, conferences, workshops, and trainings to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in the field of emergency management and emergency services.

Serve on a rotational on-call basis to activate EOC 24/7/365 as required by emergency and/or disaster situations that may require emergency management assistance.

Assists in the instruction of preparedness programs related to emergency management.

Corresponds (written/verbal) with OEM internal and external stakeholders at various levels.

Organizes, coordinates, and schedules meetings with OEM stakeholders.
Provides administrative support to the Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC).

Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required for this position and a minimum of three years of experience in fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, emergency management, CERT/Volunteer management, and training; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Basic certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Agency required at time of hire: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800.
ICS-300 and ICS-400 preferred.
Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days.
Amateur Radio License required within six months of hire.
