Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) - Taconic Region
Description
Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent of the Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) position will:
- Maintain and repair the various heavy equipment both at the Regional maintenance building and across the Taconic Region as needed. Repairs and maintenance may include inspecting the Regional Dump Truck (International) and Heavy Equipment Trailer.
- Maintain both gasoline and diesel engines and perform NYS inspections on vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Maintain, repair, and replace components of diesel-powered equipment, such as hydraulic systems, transmissions and differentials, and electronics.
- Perform medium to heavy labor tasks using various hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, welding tools, and measuring and testing equipment appropriate to the tasks assigned.
- Maintain and repair small engine equipment as needed.
- Work with and communicate effectively with regional staff and park patrons.
- Supervise permanent and seasonal staff in combination with the training of such staff.
- Maintains supply inventory and orders parts for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Participate and complete training programs as required and/or instructed.
- Perform all work in safe and professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.
Substitution: Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.
• Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience.
• Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be able to pass a physical for respirator use and be able to work from heights.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs and emergencies.
- Must maintain a CDL A license and obtain NYS inspection license for heavy vehicles Group 1&2 (over 18,000 lbs.) as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be available to travel to other parks or historic sites to complete to repairs as needed
Mid-Hudson Location Adjustment: $1,650
