This position is an Crew Leader position in the ARR Collections Curbside Division. The Crew Leader position is tasked to develop, coordinate, assign, monitor schedules and the activities of their assigned workers, to ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained, to investigate and responds to complaints from employees and the public, as well as record data on appropriate forms and logs, and train new employees on SOPs.

This position works Monday - Friday 5:30a.m. - 2:00p.m. and will be required to work holidays, after hours, weekends, seasonal shift changes and other areas due to business needs.

A competency assessment may be required to verify your skill set.

This position is considered an essential position, which means it is expected that an employee comes to work during any City Closure or emergency to include bad weather and any other unexpected events or shutdowns.

Physical requirements for Operational Positions:
The employee is required to perform the following tasks during the normal course of an approximately eight (8) to ten (10) hour day, four (4) to six (6) days a week.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a Current Commercial Driver License, Minimum Class B License and must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License and/or required endorsements within 120 days of employment. City of Austin employees that promote or transfer into driving required positions cannot have more than eight City Driver Points ( CDP ) within a period of thirty-six (36) months and must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite .
NOTE : All Austin Resource Recovery locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any ARR worksite - including parking lot or in any personal vehicle located on the premises.
Pay Range
$25.74 - $30.50 per hour

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


Ensures staff compliance with policies and procedures and documents subordinate employee performance. Develops, coordinates, assigns, and monitors schedules and activities between work groups in field, providing assistance and information to the crew’s supervisor, as required in disciplinary actions, in administration of performance reviews, and in the section’s budget, programs, projects, and activities. Acts as backup to the supervisor in their absence or as directed by management. Records data on appropriate forms and logs and enters data into system, writes memos, and prepares reports as needed. Reviews work of other crew members for completeness and quality, ensuring the crew’s assigned results are met. Trains others in the proper use of equipment and vehicles as required by management. Interacts with other divisions, departments, and the public; investigates and responds to complaints from employees and the public; and resolves conflicts. Ensures vehicles, equipment, and material are maintained and repaired timely. Pre-trips all vehicles and heavy equipment as required by management and maintains detailed vehicle and equipment records, completing paperwork, forms, and reports related to collection activities. Pick-ups, processes, or disposes of trash, brush, litter, recyclables, bulky items, re-use items, or compostable items and dumps collected materials at designated dump sites/landfill. Cleans up illegal dump sites, parkland, targeted encampment sites, and other sites with high volume of trash-related complaints or concerns throughout the City of Austin. Learns and follows routes, reads street maps, and micro-routes to locate route destinations. Decides whether to pick up trash that is set out improperly. Provides information to customers, when appropriate, and responds to routine customer questions about work being performed. Places customer notices, door hangers, and public information literature. Follows all safety rules. Observes and reports accidents, burglaries, and hazardous situations. Assists other Austin Resource Recovery ( ARR ) crews as directed and performs other duties as assigned and perform the tasks of ARR Associates, Operator Trainees, Operators, and Operator Seniors as needed.
