Pesticide Control Officer
Description
Job SummaryThe City of Greenville's Public Works Department seeks a Pesticide Control Officer. This position performs rodent and mosquito work for the safety of Greenville citizens.
FLSA Status: Non-ExemptExamples of Duties- Controls mosquitos with integrated management techniques;
- Conducts mosquito counts; investigates complaints about infestations and nuisances;
- Maintains accurate reports and records of pesticide applications;
- Administers larvicide for control of mosquitoes;
- Monitors and checks areas of the City for suspected vectors;
- Inspects drainage of stagnant water areas;
- Prepares and submits specimens for analysis and identification;
- Answers calls for vector control assistance;
- Prepares and applies approved chemicals;
- Maintains equipment and tools;
- Answers questions from the public concerning pest control and provide educational materials;
- Prepares daily work schedule and reports;
- Attends meetings and seminars in vector control;
- Assists with solid waste code enforcement activities and documentation;
- Assists with sanitation-related customer service;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: - High school diploma or GED (two-year degree in related field preferred); and
- One year experience in pest or mosquito control.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: - the uses, dangers, and methods of applying and controlling assigned pesticide chemicals and materials.
- the location and characteristics of City streets and neighborhoods.
Skilled in: - the operation and maintenance of various equipment used in the performance of pesticide duties.
Ability to: - exercise sound technical judgment in applying poisonous and noxious chemicals and materials.
- prepare routine reports and records.
- work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public.
- work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- meet the mental and physical demands of the job.
Special Requirements- Valid Class C North Carolina driver's license
- Preferred a valid N.C. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Preferred North Carolina Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License (Public Ground Operator License) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
