Job Summary

PROCESS INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN

The City of Olathe is currently seeking a Process Instrumentation Technician within our Environmental Services Plant Maintenance Division. The ideal candidate should have water or wastewater treatment process knowledge and process instrumentation experience to implement technical projects that require Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) programming knowledge.

Process Instrumentation Technician I: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in operating and maintaining process instrumentation (e.g., chlorine, turbidity, pH, and sludge analyzers) is required. A n associate’s degree supplemented by specialized training or course work in environmental science focused on the maintenance and operation of water or wastewater facilities is required. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education. A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record is required. C andidate must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class I Water or Wastewater Operators certification with the State of Kansas or ABC Class I Plant Maintenance Technologist certification within 24 months. Pay Range: $25.50-29.15/hour depending on experience.

Process Instrumentation Technician II: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in operating and maintaining process instrumentation or two years of increasingly responsible experience maintaining PLC’s and/or SCADA systems is required. An associate degree supplemented by specialized training or certification in IT or Environmental Science focused on the maintenance and operation of water or wastewater facilities is required. Additional relevant and progressively more responsible experience may be substituted for education.

A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required. Must o btain one of the following within 24 months of hire: AVEVA/Intouch HMI Certificate, Rockwell ControlLogix Programmer certification, or Logix Maintainer certification. Must also complete two SLC 500 Programming and Maintenance classes within 24 months of hire. Must obtain Class I Water, Wastewater, or Plant Maintenance Technologist certification within 24 m onths of hire. Pay Range: $28.00-32.34/hour depending on experience.

Process Instrumentation Technician III: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in operating and maintaining process instrumentation and four years of increasingly responsible experience maintaining performing PLC and/or SCADA systems is required. An associate's degree supplemented by specialized training or certification in IT or Environmental Science focused on the maintenance and operation of water or wastewater facilities is required. Must have a valid driver’s license with favorable driving record. Must obtain AVEVA/Intouch HMI Certificate, Rockwell ControlLogix Programmer certification and Logix Maintainer certification and complete four SLC 500 Programming and Maintenance classes within 24 months. Complete three Panel View and Networking courses focused on Ethernet/IP and FactoryTalk View programming and troubleshooting within 36 months. Must o btain Class II Water or Wastewater Operators certification and Class III Plant Maintenance Technologist certification within 24 months of employment. Pay Range: $30.50-35.89/hour depending on experience.

The Process Instrument Technician I provides functional and technical support in the operation and maintenance of process instrumentation in the water and wastewater treatment processes, including chlorine and turbidity analyzers, pH probes and sludge bindicators. They perform calibrations and maintenance on all process instrumentation. The Process Instrument Technician I is the first level in a three-level career progression of Process Instrumentation Technician I, II, and III.
