This position will work within the Office of the Director of the Department of Public Safety (DPS-DO) and will be responsible for assisting the Budget Director, general accounting practices as well as an array other task associated with grant revenues and payroll processes. What you’ll do:
- Assist in monitoring the budget and legislative process, budget and expenditure tracking and reconciliation, maintaining communication with divisions, governor, and legislative budget staff.
- Assist in preparation and coordination of the annual budget for DPS.
- Monitor and analyze expenditures of DPS appropriations to ensure timely expenditures, monitor and analyze fund balances and prepare reports of fund balances.
- Review expenditures on a historical basis to project future appropriation needs.
- Complete quarterly reconciliation of Grant revenues and expenditures and complete FFR 425 reports required by DOJ and FEMA in a timely manner.
- Process new awards and adjustments in Webgrants and SAM II.
- Prepare and provide HR reports and pay period reports.
- Complete weekly/monthly drawdowns of federal funds to pay claims as requested.
- Assist in Federal Audits when required.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations and provide budgets for program managers.
- Exercises significant independence, judgment, and initiative in the performance of assignments within established policies and procedures.
- General accounting actions in SAM II for budget updates.
- Participate in MOVERS transition meetings.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of governmental budgeting and fiscal management.
- Comprehensive knowledge of general governmental accounting, auditing, and/or procurement principles, procedures, and related fiscal practices.
- Advance knowledge of reconciling.
- Intermediate knowledge of research methodology.
- Extensive knowledge of Excel, Access, and SAMII Financial.
- Intermediate knowledge of contracts, grants, and related fiscal documents.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, organize, and complete complex assignments.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and be able to apply Government Account Standards Board (GASB) Principles.
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
- Relevant education and experience may substitute for deficiencies.
