AWP Mechanical Technician

Description

  1. Provide scheduled maintenance inspections and repairs. Maintain a record of service cycles and other maintenance activities conducted. Maintains preventative maintenance records, reports, and files as required. Coordinates with Supervisor and Planner/Scheduler to perform and document work daily.
  2. Performs basic plumbing, masonry and carpentry maintenance.
  3. Performs routine heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), boiler and mechanical duties, inspecting, installing or replacing filters, pumps, motors, controls and preventative maintenance.
  4. Maintains safety and security of AWP Facilities, inspecting, securing, or replacing fence material, barbed wire, razor wire, pedestrian gates, vehicle gates, vehicle gate motors, camera systems, and access control systems.
  5. Oversees and performs maintenance, repairs and construction of irrigation systems including timers, pumps, pressure regulators and electronic valves.
  6. Oversees and performs maintenance, repair, construction, general housekeeping and cleaning of building/facilities including HVAC, plumbing, doors, floors, windows, walls, lighting, laboratory and associated appurtenances.
  7. Repairs, maintains, installs, inspects, troubleshoots, and adjusts a variety of mechanical equipment at treatment facilities. Equipment includes pumps, blowers, centrifuges, compressors, scrapers, hydraulic controls, rotary drum thickeners, collectors, boiler systems, grit handling systems, gear boxes, belt, chain and screw conveyors; flare and related equipment.
  8. Performs mechanical maintenance, repairs, and rebuilding of shop, field and plant equipment used in wastewater and advanced water treatment plants, pump stations, chemical feed systems, and collection systems. Maintains, installs, inspects, and repairs a variety of pumps, such as centrifugal, positive displacement, and screw; services, lubricates, and maintains chemical feed and processing equipment; determines excess wear and pump efficiencies’ follows preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance practices.
  9. Maintains, installs, inspects, and repairs piping and tubing systems; installs, removes and repairs larger pipes and valves; modifies or assists in modifying existing piping systems. 
  10. Uses hand and power tools such as grinders, saws, jacks, welders, hydraulic presses and pullers, pipe threaders, assists with inspection, testing and measurement of equipment and material using precision instruments such as scales, height and depth gauges, calipers, and micrometers of various types.
  11. Uses personal computer to perform computerized maintenance management (CMMS) tasks and specialized functions as directed.
  12. Prepares and paints plant equipment, pipes, tanks and structures.
  13. Plans, coordinates, constructs/installs small and large pumps, motors, valves, and appurtenance. 
  14. Performs planning tasks, keeps records of work performed, and provides estimates of labor and material necessary for the performance of the work. Conducts research on asset repair/replacement prices and supplies as directed.
  15. Performs operational tests on motors, valves and pump stations to determine the condition of equipment.
  16. Performs warehouse functions including storing, palletizing/depalletizing and issuing of material; check stock levels to verify inventory. Maintains spare parts, inventory records, records receipt and issuance of stock. Delivers materials and parts as required.
  17. May serve as a member of the confined space rescue team and be SCBA Certified.
  18. Coordinates with supervisor, and Planner/Scheduler to perform and document work daily. 
  19. A Mechanical Technician in Grade 25 is considered a lead employee and will coordinate assigned workload within the maintenance group for their assigned shift.
  20. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level, as assigned.
