Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years experience in general mechanical automotive repairs.
- Any combination of related education and/or work experience may substitute for one year of required experience with a maximum substitution of three (3) years.
Licenses or Certifications: - Class “C” driver’s license. If required, must obtain an appropriate commercial driver’s license ( CDL ) within 120 days of employment with the City.
- If required by the assignment, must be certified within six (6) months of employment in accordance with EPA standards in air conditioning service, repairs and Freon recovery to include Freon recovery equipment operations.
- If required by the assignment, must be certified within six (6) months of employment as a state vehicle inspector in accordance with TDPS procedures and regulations.

The purpose of the
Mechanic Equipment II position is to under general supervision, perform skilled and specialized mechanical repairs on vehicles, motorized equipment and trailers in city operations.

- Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds. Work environment includes inside, and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases, and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond, and work with participant’s needs and safety issues.

Pay Range
$23.44 - $26.83 per hour
Hours
Work/Location Schedule Notes: - This is a 40 hour per week position and shifts for this position are typically Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.
- Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs and programs.
- May be required to work during City emergencies such as extreme weather events.

Preferred Education/Certifications: - Formal training in automotive, small engine repair (particularly electric) and maintenance.
Preferred Experience: - Experience with repairing and servicing diesel-fueled engines and equipment.
- Experience in the proper care, maintenance and repair of various small electric motors and engines (golf carts and golf course maintenance equipment preferred).
- Experience with welding and some minor fabrication experience preferred.
- Experience/skill in using a variety of related tools, equipment and materials and in operating small engines and equipment.
- Experience maintaining service records.
Preferred Knowledge: - Knowledge of, and experience with hydraulic systems in small engines.
- Basic computer competency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel.
Other:- Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Checks/services vehicles.
2. Performs tune-ups and overhauls on gasoline and diesel engines.
3. Disassembles, repairs and/or services, reassemble and reinstall vehicle accessories and systems (brake systems, transmissions, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, cooling/radiator systems, air conditioning systems, starters and pumps).
4 Operates acetylene torch.
5. Performs basic wheel alignments.
6. Diagnoses problems; performs maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment such as crawler loader, backhoes and bulldozers.
7. Records maintenance and service data on appropriate forms and make computer entries of work performed.
