KC Film Office Fellow (Limited-term Contract)
Description
Limited-term contract position available with the Mayor's Office, KC Film Office located at 414 E. 12th St. *Limited term contract is one year with the potential to renew. Salary Range: $3,500/month Normal Work Days/Hours: Varies, positions works 25-30 hours per week Application Deadline Date: May 16, 2025
Responsibilities
Production Assistance:
Assists as a local liaison with international, national and regional production companies to provide pre-production & logistical support
Coordinates meetings between Film Office and productions
Works to maintain and grow the Locations Database.
Coordinates with property owners listed in the Locations Database.
Identifies new location opportunities and takes photos.
Works to maintain the professional resources in the Crew & Services Database.
Builds relationships with local industry and area resources to maintain updated crew listings and access to resources required for production.
Researches and develops new resources and guides that assist productions filming in the Kansas City area.
Works with the City and surrounding municipalities for permitting, city services, and support.
Marketing & Communications:
Develops and distributes engaging newsletters to promote local film initiatives and events.
Manages social media accounts, creating content that highlights Kansas City's film industry and attractions.
Designs marketing collateral, including brochures, flyers, and promotional materials to support office initiatives.
Writes and publishes blog posts that showcase local film projects, industry news, and community stories.
Attends industry events and networking opportunities to promote Kansas City as a destination for film.
Maintains and updates film office website and content.
Industry Support:
Supports projects for specified local film and new media festivals and events
Assists Film Commissioner in special projects and programs developed in partnership with local organizations.
Generates and presents reports, promotional information and economic data related to KC Film, film markets and the industry at large.
Identifies KC area film events and screenings.
Leads on-site management of KC Film Office events.
Qualifications
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Passionate about Kansas City.
Knowledge of film industry and production, including an understanding of technical, organizational and financial aspects of film, television and commercial production a plus.
Strong attention to detail, initiative and work ethic.
Must be motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Knowledge of location scouting for film production and familiarity with Kansas City assets a plus.
Teamwork and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrates ability to meet deadlines.
Flexibility and agility to adapt to changing and emergent business requirements and objectives.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Canva and industry related software.
Photography and graphic design experience a plus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Accredited Bachelor's degree or the equivalent with coursework in film, multimedia, communications, marketing or related field preferred. Two to three years of experience preferred.
