The Department of Public Health's Environmental Health Services Division is recruiting for a Senior Solid Waste Program Specialist* to lead and coordinate initiatives in the Solid Waste/Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) program and serve as an expert consultant performing direct services. The Senor Solid Waste Program Specialist assists supervisors by assigning and reviewing the work of staff, training and coordinating complex projects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Work Schedule: May be required to perform duties on-call after normal working hours and on weekends.
Physical: May be required to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl or hike when necessary during the investigation process.
Travel/License: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Assignment: Must be willing to accept work assignments in the following areas: Rancho Cucamonga, Hesperia, and San Bernardino. Must indicate a willingness to work in all three (3) geographic areas on the Application in order to be eligible for these positions.

Minimum Requirements

Certificate: Must possess and maintain a valid certificate of registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) issued by the State of California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Some assignments require specialized certificates. Be sure to indicate any special certifications on the Supplemental Questionnaire.

AND

Experience: One and one-half (1-1/2) years of experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist performing environmental health inspections and investigations in California.

Note: Experience as a trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly separated from journey-level experience on the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess experience leading team projects and knowledge of two or more Environmental Health Services programs (Food Protection, Recreational Health, Insect and Vector Rodent Control, Housing and Property Improvement, Land Use, Water, Waste Water, and Waste Management) in a public agency.
