The Position

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time vacancy which may be filled at the Agricultural/Weights & Measures (AG/W&M) Inspector I, II, or III level depending on qualifications, for the Agricultural Commissioner's Office at Napa County. The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year.

The Napa County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures Department is a vital administrative body safeguarding both agriculture and fair commerce in Napa County, California. Napa County Agricultural/Weights and Measures Inspectors are essential in upholding state and federal regulations concerning weights and measures by conducting inspections of commercial weighing and measuring devices to ensure accuracy and fair transactions. Inspectors also perform price verification audits to confirm that advertised and scanned prices align, helping ensure consumers are charged correctly at the point of sale. Responding to complaints and incidents of inaccurate measurements, price discrepancies, or potential fraud is another critical responsibility. Through investigations, you'll take appropriate action, which may include issuing compliance actions and developing cases for legal proceedings. Furthermore, you'll contribute to fair commerce by educating businesses on proper weighing, measuring, and pricing practices, and by verifying the accuracy of devices used in trade. This role extends beyond ensuring fair transactions; it also facilitates commerce by inspecting packaged goods for accurate labeling and quantity statements, ensuring compliance with crucial regulations. Position Requirements: To qualify for the Ag/W&M Inspector I classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:To qualify for the Ag/W&M Inspector II classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:To qualify for the Ag/W&M Inspector III classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is: *Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
