Position Description
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will function within the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, delivering comprehensive, family-centered care to pediatric patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions in a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic setting. The Pediatric APP provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions
This role involves oversight of outpatient infusions, patient education, interdisciplinary coordination, and participation in quality initiatives to ensure exceptional, holistic care.

• Provide direct clinical care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients within the Joe Arrington Cancer Center outpatient clinic.
• Manage patient visits, develop individualized care plans, and ensure continuity and safety throughout treatment.
• Coordinate and monitor outpatient infusion services; remain onsite until all scheduled infusions are completed.
• Stay beyond standard clinic hours as needed to support patients undergoing extended infusion sessions.
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, medication side effects, and care plans.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and allied health professionals to deliver holistic, team-based care.
• Document all clinical encounters promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Actively participate in care team meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement efforts.
• Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment, working both independently and collaboratively.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.

Required Qualifications
Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program; current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.
