Industrial Plant Mechanic
Description
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Under supervision, to do skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repairs of the mechanical equipment of a wastewater collection and treatment system; and to do related work as required.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
Two (2) years of experience in the repair or maintenance of any of the following areas: heavy industrial equipment, power transmission equipment or complex machinery.
Required Special Qualifications
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Iowa.
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer background check, physical examination, and drug screen.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
Installs, maintains and repairs pumps, gasoline, diesel and natural gas engines, valves, pipes, heat exchangers, pneumatic systems and equipment, heating/cooling equipment, aeration equipment, conveyors and other heavy industrial mechanical equipment and systems found in major water or wastewater treatment facilities.
Welds stainless steel, cast iron, steel, and aluminum. Sweats copper and solvent welds PVC.
Designs, fabricates and machines repair parts for equipment and facilities.
Uses lathes, drill presses and other metal working power tools.
Uses overhead cranes, crane trucks and other lifting devices in repair and replacement of equipment.
Inspects all equipment being installed under contracts to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
