The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide supervision of activities relating to the operation of the Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF) and the Combined Sewer Solids Separation Facility (CSSF).
Acceptable Experience and Training
Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, AND
Six (6) or more years of previous experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment facility including three (3) or more years of supervisory responsibility, OR
Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, AND
Possession of an Iowa Grade III Wastewater License at the time of application and ability to obtain a grade IV wastewater license within 12 months of appointment.

Required Special Qualifications
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer background check, physical examination, and drug screen.
Possession of a valid Iowa driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
Plans, schedules, and prioritizes work for Operations and Dewatering team members;
Communicates with various personnel and members of the public on conditions affecting the proper operation of the facilities including equipment status, safety, efficiency and capacity;
Prepares work schedules for all supervised staff and prepares payroll reports;
Prepares work orders and inputs data into the CMMS program;
Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instructs/trains employees in the operation and maintenance of equipment and in the execution of required activities;
Prepares and monitors budget and performs cost analyses on various processes, procedures and equipment;
Prepares comprehensive annual, quarterly and monthly reports;
Prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment;
Develops and implements procedures, techniques and methods to increase operating efficiency;
Assists with the planning, organization and direction of the activities relating to operation, maintenance and improvements to the WRF and CSSSF;
Responsible for hauled waste screening, acceptance, and treatment;
Serves as a key resource and is responsible for operating, replacing, budgeting and providing performance reports on all operations related equipment, activities, and personnel;
Coaches employees and develops training plans for all supervised personnel.
