Full-time position with the Health Department, Communicable Disease Prevention Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

This supervisory role within the Communicable Disease Surveillance Unit oversees HIV surveillance activities and directly supervises two HIV surveillance staff members. The Public Health Specialist II is responsible for maintaining the integrity and quality of HIV/AIDS data reported by mandated reporters and ensuring accurate data entry into the national surveillance record system.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supervises HIV surveillance staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
• Ensures compliance with reporting standards and data quality protocols for HIV/AIDS cases.
• Conducts data analysis to identify trends and patterns in HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases.
• Develops and disseminating reports, charts, graphs, and other data visualizations to support public health initiatives.
• Delivers presentations on HIV/AIDS surveillance findings and contributing to broader communicable disease reporting efforts.
• Provides information on public health response and policy through accurate data collection, analysis, and dissemination.

Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree OR High School Diploma and four (4) years of experience in private, public, or community healthcare, community sanitation, health inspections, health education, data analysis, or related healthcare fields OR An Accredited Associate's degree and two (2) years of experience. Must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
