Description
Position DescriptionAt Tacoma Public Library (TPL), our mission is to empower our community by bringing people together to discover, connect, create, learn and thrive. Want to make an impact? We’re looking for an IT Analyst Senior Technical who will play a meaningful technical lead role on the library’s IT team in collaboration with the City of Tacoma in managing and configuring networks, servers, and systems. This position reports to the Library IT Manager.
This role typically works a regular Monday-Friday schedule with limited on-call rotation and occasional weekend/evening work for performing maintenance during off-peak hours. The position may be hybrid, and the on-site location is at our Main location at 1102 Tacoma Ave. S, Tacoma WA.

TPL serves over 200,000 residents in Tacoma, through eight branches and online and outreach services.
A day in the life for this position:- You serve as the library’s lead system administrator for a variety of Windows and Linux (Red Hat and Ubuntu) application servers
- You assist the team and work with vendors on the implementation, deployment, migrations, and maintenance of library server applications
- You work in collaboration with your colleagues and the City of Tacoma’s IT Department on the management of the library’s DNS (internal and external), firewalls, public network routing, and filtering services
- You lead the design and management of the library’s public computing endpoint systems including imaging, updating, and security
- You lead and provide direction to contractors, vendors, and junior team members on projects and tasks
- You coordinate technical aspects of projects and report back results and progress with established timeframes
- You prepare and manage project plans for maintaining, upgrading, and implementing existing and new systems
- You assist the team with authoring and maintaining technical documentation and best practices concerning the library’s network, servers, and applications
QualificationsEquivalent combination of : - Bachelor ’ s degree in computer science or related field AND
- Five or more years directly related information technology work experience
- Project management experience is preferred
Desired Qualifications: - Certifications in Security+, Network+, Server+, Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundations
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Team lead or supervisory experie nce
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Washington State Driver's License at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.
Knowledge & Skills- Expert skill in Linux and Windows server administration
- Expert knowledge in upgrading application servers, database systems
- Expert skill in Windows endpoint updating and administration
- Expert knowledge in server administration, protocols, ports, SSL cert ificate management
- Expert skill in CLI administration
- Advanced skill in leading complex technical projects
- Advanced sk ill in providing guidance and distributing tasks to team members
- Advanced skill in creating and maintaining technical documentation
- Skill in leading projects , distributing and reviewing work do ne by others
- Skill in P owerShell scripting
- Knowledge in maintaining and configuring SonicWall NSa firewalls
- Knowledge and experience with Cisco Umbrella DNS filtering
- Knowledge of endpoint management fo r Windows, MacOS, iOS, and ChromeOS devices

This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the Tacoma Public Library and Local 117. Individuals given a conditional offer of employment must also pass a background check. New employees must successfully complete a six-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.

The Tacoma Public Library is not a department of the City of Tacoma and the Library's employees are not employees of the City. The Library is a separate entity with its own governing body. The Library's governing body is the Tacoma Public Library Board of Trustees.
Employees of the City of Tacoma who accept employment with the Tacoma Public Library will lose their City of Tacoma employee seniority. They will also find that their leave accruals, and some of the benefits enjoyed as employees of the City of Tacoma do not carry over when they are hired for a position with the Tacoma Public Library.
