We’re seeking a dedicated, experienced and visionary EMS Supervisor - Field Operations to lead by example, support field personnel and help shape the future of emergency medical services in our community.

Essential Functions:

• Provide direct management, supervision and support of daily field staff and incident response in operational and clinical roles
• Serve as the first line of supervision in the EMS Department by leading and supporting a team of EMTs and Paramedics as they respond to emergencies
• Utilize your excellent interpersonal skills to directly address issues with employees, partners and the public
• Play an integral role in managing the EMS System through employee supervision, resource management, complaint and unusual event investigations, and task prioritization

About Our Team

Wake County EMS is a cutting-edge emergency medical services system that is responsible for providing EMS services throughout Wake County including within each of the county’s 12 local municipalities. We have well-developed mobile integrated health (community paramedicine) and research programs. We responded to over 140,000 requests for 911 EMS services in 2024. The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

• Associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field
• Five years of experience as a paramedic in the Wake County EMS System
• Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
• Certification as a North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMTP)
• Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

• Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services or equivalent
• Two plus years of experience as a Field Training Officer or Advanced Practice Paramedic in the Wake County EMS System
• Completion of the Wake County EMS System Relief District Captain Program
• Completion of major incident management coursework

• Supervisory skills with the ability to provide guidance and professional support to staff, offer regular feedback, hold staff accountable, and serve as a mentor
• Ability to monitor/assess the performance of yourself, other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
• Ability to demonstrate excellence in critical thinking, communications, prioritization and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals and/or groups at all levels of the organization and within the community with tact and diplomacy
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion
• Ability to maintain knowledge of Wake County EMS System treatment protocols and procedures, and Wake County EMS operating guidelines
• Ability to maintain familiarity with emergency and prehospital medical care by constantly keeping up to date with mandatory paid continuing education required to maintain certification
• Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases and deformities, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures
• Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems

Work Schedule: Rotating 12 Hour Shifts

Hiring Range: 37.72 - 49.03

Market Range: 37.72 - 60.35

Emergency Service Worker Statement

Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
