Job Posting Information:

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is hiring two Fire Management Officer (FMO) positions as part of the recently approved Wildland Fire Management Program. The FMO is a supervisory position and a key member of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Wildland Fire Management Program leadership. The FMO’s will be responsible for daily oversight and operations of two eight-person fire modules and a type 6 engine, coordinate and work with multiple partnering fire response and risk mitigation agencies, represent the Sheriff’s Office or serve as Incident Commander on wildfire incidents, make recommendations on county fire restrictions, and provide input into multiple county fire agreements. The FMO will be the lead on maintaining IQS records, serve as a lead instructor or facilitate fire training courses, assist with state fire billing work, have project planning and budget oversight responsibilities, as well as other normal supervisory duties. Risk Mitigation project work, including prescribed fire, will be the primary focus of the crews/engine, which will be staffed with permanent full-time positions. The FMO may be assigned a vehicle to take home to facilitate fire response needs and other program business. The FMOs will work an A or B shift (Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday) to allow for 7-day coverage. This is an in-person (not remote) salaried position that will work a 4-10 schedule, but also is expected to be available outside the normal work week for incident support as needed.Fire assignments out of the county are possible, and professional development training and pursuit of NWCG qualifications will be encouraged, but dependent on funding and county fire risk conditions.




The incumbent must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. as necessary. Work may include all hazard and emergency response activities.

Ability to pass The Work Capacity Test (WCT-Pack Test) as a method for assessing an employee's fitness levels for fire qualifications. Arduous fitness (WCT-Pack Test) will consist of completing a three-mile hike, within 45 minutes, while carrying a 45-pound pack.

Preferred: FAL1, EMTF, STPS, CRWB, ICT3.
