The City Attorney’s office provides legal counsel for the City Council, volunteer advisory groups, and City staff.

The City Attorney’s Office is made up of skilled and dedicated professionals committed to supporting the City’s legal needs. The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council to act as the City's general counsel. The City Attorney provides a full range of legal services to the City including preparation of legal opinion, research and support, representation in litigation, document preparation, and related work. The City of Livermore is seeking a team-oriented, approachable, and experienced professional to serve as its next City Attorney. A strong leader and strategic problem solver, the ideal candidate will build collaborative relationships and communicate effectively with elected officials, government agencies, stakeholders, and staff. They understand the value of sound legal counsel to promote well-informed decisions and foster successful projects. Candidates should be confident in municipal law and skilled in legal research, supervision, training, and performance evaluation. A solid ethical foundation, tact, and the courage to provide honest advice—even in difficult situations—are essential.

The incumbent City Attorney’s salary is currently $315,269. The salary for the incoming City Attorney is negotiable and dependent upon experience and qualifications.
