The Wildland Fire Planner & Recovery Coordinator is responsible for wildfire response and preparedness planning, wildfire risk mitigation planning, and post-wildfire recovery planning. All program areas require working with stakeholders to identify, plan and facilitate the processes that allow for effective and strategic implementation across all county jurisdictions. The Wildland Fire Planner & Recovery Coordinator is tasked with guiding proactive actions that will facilitate the county Wildland Fire Management Program resources, and its partners, to mitigate the risk of wildfire to its citizens and resources, facilitate effective fire response actions and minimize the impacts of wildfire to the citizens, communities and values at risk from wildfire incidents.

Description:

The Wildland Fire Planner & Recovery Coordinator is a new position and part of the recently approved Wildland Fire Management Program with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. This is a non-supervisory position and a key member of the Wildland Fire Management Program leadership team. The Wildland Fire Planner & Recovery Coordinator is responsible for wildfire response and preparedness planning, wildfire risk mitigation planning, and post-wildfire recovery planning. All program areas require working with stakeholders to identify, plan and facilitate the processes that allow for effective and strategic implementation across all county jurisdictions. The Wildland Fire Planner & Recovery Coordinator is tasked with guiding proactive actions that will facilitate the county Wildland Fire Management Program resources, and its partners, to mitigate the risk of wildfire to its citizens and resources, facilitate effective fire response actions and minimize the impacts of wildfire to the citizens, communities and values at risk from wildfire incidents. This is an in-person (not remote) salaried position that will work a 4-10 schedule (Monday-Thursday) but also is expected to be available outside the normal work week for incident support as needed.Fire assignments out of the county are possible, and professional development training and pursuit of NWCG qualifications will be encouraged, but dependent on funding and county fire risk conditions.

Starting Pay: 80,315.16 - 104,409.71 Annual

• Provides technical advice and support in the development and implementation of Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP) to county leadership and fire protection districts. Coordinates and tracks annual implementation of CWPP actions, validates existing plans, and leads efforts on updating county and fire protection district CWPPs.
• Designs and guides the implementation of plans and projects, which include prioritization, determining project locations, feasibility, resources, assisting with the budget, and other related items.
• Presents technical and complex information and concerns to stakeholders and the public regarding fire preparedness and risk mitigation efforts. Provides spatial and data analysis outputs and maps, wildfire risk matrix, fire behavior modeling and impacts to high value resources and assets.

• Coordinates the collection, review, retention, and appropriate record-keeping for documents related to fire management plans, risk mitigation plans and post incident recovery plans.

• Coordinates and reviews fire planning-related agreements between county fire programs and cooperating agencies and organizations at the county, state and federal levels. Includes annual review and coordination with multiple partners on Fire Management Operating Plans, Mutual Aid Agreements and facilitating local agreement for fire mitigation project work with partners and landowners.

• Provides county-wide technical advice for short- and long-term strategic fire management planning, assessments, and interagency fire management plans to inform wildland fire program direction, budget planning, and annual work plans.

• Works with affected agencies and partners on post-fire impact recovery and mitigation plans. Coordinates with multiple agencies at the local, county, state and federal levels on impacted areas throughout the county. Serve as the primary liaison between the Wildland Fire Management Program and County Emergency Operations Center during and after an incident to identify and coordinate post fire mitigation impacts.

• Provides guidance to Wildland Fire Management program staff on data collection and evaluation of fire hazard, fuel conditions, historic fire occurrence, fire effects, climatology, and weather conditions.

• Serves as the subject matter expert for wildland fire decision support tools and programs and data tracking including county, state and national databases and programs used to inform decision making processes.

• Participates and coordinates with other staff on the scheduling and implementation of wildland fire related training classes and exercises. Collaborate with partners on managing a training calendar, identifying training needs and ensuring training needs are met.

• Works with the Wildland Fire Program Manager, Sheriff’s Office and County leadership on the development of policy as it pertains to wildland fire program actions.

• Other duties as assigned.

The incumbent must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. as necessary.

Required:

• National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (NWCG): FFT2
• Three years of prior experience in wildland fire, fire mitigation, forest management or other all-hazard planning or post incident recovery work is required.

Preferred: FFT1, Any single resource boss, LOFR, Geographic Information System (GIS) experience.

Work may include all hazard and emergency response activities.
