Duties Description Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site is one of the oldest buildings in New York. For nearly 350 years, Philipse Manor Hall has sat at the confluence of the Saw Mill and Hudson Rivers as Yonkers grew out of the vast landholdings of the Philipse family. In 2022, the historic site reopened after undergoing extensive renovations and the installation of a new permanent exhibit, Our Whole History. Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site explores the conflicting interests between the local Lunaape Munsee Native Americans, European Colonizers, and enslaved individuals of African descent.
Under the supervision of Site Management, the selected candidate will be expected to work closely with staff, community, and vendors to ensure that Philipse Manor Hall’s mission is met. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Maintenance assignments including lawn mowing, weeding, plant and tree care, sweeping of parking areas and paths, snow removal, refuse removal, cleaning structures, painting and minor carpentry tasks.
• Operate light duty vehicles and power tools. Conduct simple repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Regular custodial work such as dusting, vacuuming, floor cleaning, restroom cleaning, organizing storage spaces, manage supply inventories, and maintain public spaces by adhering to designated cleaning protocols.
• Historic Site exhibit care includes regular cleaning and dusting of exhibit and display cases, cleaning and polishing exhibit touch points and flat surfaces, and paint touchups of historic walls and woodwork when needed.
• Event preparation and takedown, outdoor signage care, distribute event flyers, care of event kiosks.
• Communicate in writing as well as read and comprehend written material.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with other staff and patrons.
• Serves as the site representative for the Taconic Region Safety committee.
• Participate in safety training, update safety forms and procedures. This position is expected to assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices.
• Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to perform light to medium labor tasks.
• Must be comfortable working from heights and ladders.
