Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
This recruitment is being held to establish an open eligible list to fill current and future Environmental Resources Specialist vacancies within OC Public Works. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

OC PUBLIC WORKS
OC Public Works provides services on a regional basis to unincorporated areas, to cities, and to other County agencies and departments. The primary mission of the department is to protect and enrich the community through the sustainable delivery of projects and services. OC Public Works’ guiding principles are safety, integrity, quality, teamwork, and adaptability.

OC Public Works is a unique County department that comprises ten service areas: OC Development Services; OC Fleet Services; OC Administrative Services; OC Facilities Design & Construction; OC Facilities Maintenance & Central Utilities; OC Environmental Resources; OC Operations & Maintenance; OC Construction; OC Infrastructure Programs; and OC Survey.

OC ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES
OC Environmental Resources is a service area within OC Public Works that protects and improves water quality in local water bodies and beaches; facilitates countywide compliance with state and federal stormwater runoff regulations; coordinates watershed management efforts and large-scale integrated water resource projects with stakeholders; and collects, manages, and assesses water quality, hydrologic and meteorological data on the state of the Orange County environment.

THE OPPORTUNITY

OC Public Works has an exciting opportunity for multiple Environmental Resources Specialist (ERS) positions in the OC Monitoring & Data Assessment division of OC Environmental Resources.

The ERS serves as a lead for compliance projects/programs related to the many natural resources within the County of Orange. The ERS positions will perform a variety of assignments in programs designed to monitor, maintain, and improve the quality of the environment within Orange County.

The ERS’s job duties may include, but are not limited to:


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in environmental science, ecology, geology, or a related science field. The ideal candidates should have extensive knowledge, understanding, and experience (at least three (3) years of technical experience) with one or more of the following:

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Human Resource Services (HRS) screens all application materials for minimum and/or desirable qualifications. After screening, applicants who meet the minimum and/or desirable qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. Written Examination | Multiple Choice Test (Weighted 100%):

A multiple-choice assessment will be conducted to evaluate the applicant's knowledge and experience as it relates to the job. Only the most successful candidates will be referred to the Oral Practical Exam. Based on the Department's needs, the assessment procedures above may be modified. Candidates will be notified of any changes in the assessment procedures.

Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
